See Jane Run
An Indo Story
- Theater

See Jane Run, an Indo Story is a solo memoir play written and performed by Jane Vogel Mantiri. The play explores universal themes such as hope and grief. Jane lives and works in Portland, Oregon. She is part of the Indo community that moved from the Netherlands to the United States in the 1960s.
The play is about Indo-Dutch people who fled Indonesia after the Second World War. Many hid their Indo identity because it had become a source of danger and shame. They wanted to protect their children from the pain they had experienced. They encouraged, convinced, and sometimes forced them to fit into a new culture, both in the Netherlands and in Indo communities around the world.
Today, Indos in the United States and other countries encourage each other to share their stories and reclaim their identity before their culture is lost. Their stories help keep the rich Indo heritage alive for future generations and in honour of their ancestors.
This performance tells the story of one of them. It is a story about love, loss, family trauma passed down through generations, racism, forced migration, resilience, and happiness.
See Jane Run, An Indo Story was selected for the Fertile Ground Festival in April 2025 and the Pacific Northwest Multicultural Readers Series and Film Festival in August 2025. The play was also performed in Los Angeles (The Indo Project), Scottsdale (ASU Kerr & The Bridge Initiative), and Milwaukee (Carroll University) in October 2025.
The ticket price includes one complimentary drink.
