Reclaiming Our Futures

  • Festival

Reclaiming Our Futures is a two-day festival that brings together art and science.

The festival is about working together to imagine and create better futures. We want to think about futures that are fair, welcoming, and good for people and the world around us. We also want to explore different ways of living, communicating, and using technology.

Artists, researchers, activists, makers, and citizens will come together during the festival. There will be workshops, film screenings, exhibitions, and performances. These activities offer space to think, experiment, create, and learn from each other.

The festival’s motto is: The Future is Rhizomatic

A rhizome is a type of plant root that grows in different directions. Ginger, which you can see in the festival logo, is an example of a rhizome. Rhizomes grow sideways and create many connections and new branches. For us, the rhizome is a symbol of a future without one central power or one single way of thinking. It shows us how people, ideas, and communities can connect and grow together.

It invites us to imagine a world where many different ways of living, learning, communicating, creating, and loving can exist together. In this future, no single group or idea controls the others. Instead, people and communities are connected while still being able to follow their own paths. This is the kind of future we want to help create: a future with space for different people, ideas, and ways of life, where everyone can grow and live in their own way.

Registration is free and open to everyone. However, there are only a limited number of places available. So please register early and create your own festival programme.

We look forward to welcoming you to Nijmegen for two days of imagining, playing, making, asking questions, meeting others, and reclaiming our futures together.
