Nilofar Niekpor Zamani (Kabul, 1994) werkte als fotograaf in Afghanistan bij verschillende nationale en internationale persbureaus. Haar foto’s werden o.a. gepubliceerd in The Guardian en bij de BBC. Met de komst van de Taliban in Kabul kon Nilofar haar werk als nieuwsfotograaf door de onveilige situatie niet meer uitvoeren, waarop ze besloot met haar man te vluchten. Ze kwamen terecht in Heumensoord bij Nijmegen.  

Met haar expositie Afghan Women Taboo Breaker laat Nilofar aan de hand van documentairefotografie het leven van Afghaanse vrouwen zien die taboes doorbreken in de traditionele Afghaanse samenleving. "Bij het noemen van Afghanistan denken velen meteen aan oorlog en moord, maar dat is maar een deel van Afghanistan. Door de levens van Afghaanse vrouwen te laten zien die buitenhuis werken of zich vermaken en daarmee taboes doorbreken, wil ik hun heldhaftigheid tonen, zodat mensen over de hele wereld kunnen zien hoe sterk, dapper en getalenteerd Afghaanse vrouwen zijn. Van een vrouw die werkt in een druk restaurant tot vrouwen die zwemmen. Voor veel landen geldt dat dit soort dingen normaal zijn, maar in Afghanistan moeten vrouwen heel wat doorstaan ​​om deze normale dingen te bereiken. Ik hoop dat deze vrouwen een voorbeeld kunnen zijn voor andere vrouwen over de hele wereld.” 

De expositie Afghan Women Taboo Breaker was te zien in januari en februari 2022 bij de Lindenberg.

Nilofar Niekpor Zamani (Kabul, 1994) received her bachelor’s degree in Photography in 2017 at Kabul University. She achieved many awards and worked as a photographer for several national and international news agencies. Her photos have been published in different national and international news agencies such as The Guardian and BBC. With the arrival of the Taliban in Kabul and the fall of Afghanistan, Nilofar was no longer able to carry out her work as a news photographer due to the unsafe situation, so she decided to flee with her husband. She currently resides in Heumensoord.  

With her exhibition Afghan Women Taboo Breaker, which is made in the form of a documentary, she shows the lives of Afghan women who has been breaking taboos in a traditional Afghan society. "When the name of Afghanistan is heard, everyone thinks of war and killing, but not everything in Afghanistan is war. By showing the lives of Afghan women, I wanted to show their heroism so that people around the world can see how strong, brave and talented Afghan women are. For example, a working woman in a crowded restaurant, that’s not common in Kabul. Or swimming girls is a completely new phenomenon in recent years in Afghanistan. It is normal to do all these in the Netherlands and many countries around the world, but not in Afghanistan, and women have to endure many problems to achieve their most natural desires. I hope these women can be an example to other women around the world.” 

The exhibition Afghan Women Taboo Breaker has been exhibited in January and February 2022 at the Lindenberg.
